My garage door isn’t opening. What should I do?
If your garage door isn’t opening, check the lock switch on the garage door opener and make sure it’s in the “unlock” position. Then, make sure your garage door opener is plugged in, and the batteries in the remote are still good. If your garage door still isn’t opening, there may be an issue with the tracks, rollers, cables, or springs. You’ll want to contact a trusted garage door repair company, like Jim’s Garage Door Service, to come out and fix it.
How much does a new garage door cost?
The price of a garage door can vary depending on several factors, such as the style, size, and quality. However, you can expect a single-car garage door installation to start at around $1,100, and a two-car garage door installation to start at around $1,700.
Do you offer a warranty?
Yes! All the garage door manufacturers that we partner with offer a warranty, on top of the one-year labor warranty provided by Jim’s Garage Door Service. That means you get to enjoy a new garage door as well as peace of mind knowing your investment is protected.
Do you do emergency repairs?
Yes, we do offer emergency garage door repair services. Some repairs just can’t wait, especially if the malfunction creates a safety hazard, significantly disrupts your routine, or compromises your property’s safety. That’s why we’re available to help 24/7—all you have to do is contact us, and one of our experienced technicians will get out to your property as soon as possible to identify the issue and make repairs.
When do I need a garage door replacement as opposed to a repair?
In instances where your garage door has suffered serious damage, such as severe dents or cracks, or has pieces that have been worn out beyond the point of repair, it may be more cost-effective to get a replacement as opposed to trying to repair it. Otherwise, you’ll likely find yourself spending money on a steadily increasing number of repair jobs over time. Our team of expert technicians will assess your garage door and give you an honest recommendation based on the level of damage and your door’s condition.
How often is garage door maintenance required?
While there are no “rules” regarding how often you should get maintenance on your garage door, we recommend having your garage door serviced by a professional garage door company once a year or at least once every other year. Doing so will allow small damages to be caught early on, preventing them from spiraling into larger, more costly repairs down the line.
How important is insulation in a garage door?
Insulation plays a crucial role in energy efficiency (especially if your garage is attached to the house), keeping your garage cool in the summer and warm in the winter. It also reduces noise levels and protects items stored in the garage from extreme temperatures.
What is the standard garage door size?
Most single-car garage doors are 9 feet by 7 feet, while two-car garage doors are 16 feet by 7 feet. However, sizes can vary based on the requirements of your property.
Are special garage door sizes available?
Yes! At Jim’s Garage Door Service, we offer a wide variety of custom garage door sizes to fit any specifications. Regardless of whether you need a large or small garage door to fit a unique space, we’ll help you find the right size to match your needs.
What types of garage doors are available?
At Jim’s Garage Door Service, we offer all sorts of garage doors—from sectional, roll-up, side-hinged, coiling, and tilt-up, the options are endless! Sectional and coiling are our most frequently requested residential options.
Does a garage door replacement include the opener?
A garage door opener is an optional upgrade and can be purchased separately alongside your replacement.
What types of garage door openers do you install?
We install Raynor and Liftmaster garage door openers. They’re tried-and-tested openers with reliable motors, strong lifting force, and smart control technology that allows you to remotely operate your garage door from anywhere.
Do I have to dispose of my old garage door?
No, you don’t have to dispose of your old garage door yourself. The team at Jim’s Garage Door Service will always remove old material, unless the customer specifies otherwise.
How long do garage door springs last?
The average garage door spring lasts around 7 to 9 years, or about 10,000 cycles (a cycle is a full opening and closing), although its lifespan can vary depending on usage. Garage doors that are opened and closed multiple times a day, for example, will wear out the spring faster over time.
If only one of my garage door springs broke, do I need to replace them both?
Although it’s not required to replace both garage door springs, it’s highly recommended. If one breaks, it likely means that the other is nearing the end of its lifespan. Replacing both of them ensures smooth garage door operations and prevents unnecessary wear on the new spring.
How much does a spring repair cost?
Spring repair costs can vary depending on the type of spring and size of the garage door, but on average, a spring repair costs around $299 for a one-car garage door and $399 for a two-car garage door. At Jim’s Garage Door Service, we’ll provide you with an upfront, no-obligation estimate so there aren’t any surprises.
Can I replace my garage door spring myself?
We do not recommend replacing your garage door spring yourself! Garage door springs can be extremely dangerous due to their high levels of tension, which can lead to serious injuries if mishandled. Professional garage door technicians, like the team members at Jim’s Garage Door Service, have the proper tools and expertise to safely navigate the repair.
